If you’re thinking about making the switch to men’s natural deodorant, let me tell you right off the bat—you absolutely should. However, you’re probably here because you either:

a. Don’t know which natural deodorant is best, or

b. Tried a natural deodorant that sucks (and now you don’t know if it’s worth the fuss)

These are common problems. If you’re anything like me, you grew up using toxic body sprays and roll-on deodorants and antiperspirants that are designed to mask our pubescent (human) odors and stop our armpits from producing sweat. These products are really effective at these things, BUT they come with a laundry list of health risks.

Changing to a natural, organic deodorant can be better for you, your health, and the planet. And while some natural alternatives aren’t as effective as their synthetic counterparts, there are many brands that are just as good—if not better. It can just take some time to find the right natural deodorant that smells, feels, and performs like you want it to.

TL;DR

What are the health risks of body spray and deodorant?

A lot of regular deodorants and body sprays are packed with some pretty gnarly chemicals—stuff that can mess with your hormones, irritate your skin, and potentially contribute to health issues like Alzheimer’s and even certain cancers.

The science on this stuff isn’t conclusive, but there’s enough to indicate that it’s worth being wary, especially when it comes to something you smear over your skin every single day.

Here are some of the most common toxic chemicals present in regular body sprays and deodorants and some of their potential health risks:

Aluminum compounds

Blocks sweat glands. May be linked to Alzheimer’s, breast cancer, and interferes with natural detoxification.

Phthalates

Used to make fragrances last longer; can disrupt hormones and are linked to fertility issues and developmental problems.

Triclosan

Antibacterial agent that may disrupt thyroid function and contribute to antibiotic resistance.

Butane, isobutane, and propane

Propellants in sprays that can irritate skin and lungs and are harmful if inhaled regularly.

Parabens

Preservatives that mimic estrogen, potentially disrupting hormones and increasing cancer risks.

Synthetic fragrances

Often labeled as “fragrance” or “parfum,” they can cause allergies, headaches, respiratory issues, and skin irritation.

Propylene glycol

Helps ingredients absorb into the skin but can cause irritation and damage the nervous system in high doses.

Siloxanes (cyclopentasiloxane)

Provides a silky texture but may disrupt hormones and harm the environment.

I’m no scientist, but I think reducing your exposure to some of these chemicals can only be a good thing. Right?

What are the benefits of natural deodorant for men?

Switching to natural deodorant isn’t just about jumping on the latest trend—it’s about treating your body with a bit more respect. Most guys don’t think too hard about what they’re slapping on in the morning, but when you realize the conventional stuff is packed with aluminum and synthetic chemicals, it’s hard to keep rolling or spraying that stuff under your arms.

Natural deodorant, on the other hand, keeps it real—using ingredients like coconut oil, shea butter, tapioca starch, and essential oils to fight odor without loading you up with toxins or blocking your sweat glands.

Plus, a lot of these brands are doing good for the planet with sustainable packaging and eco-friendly practices. So using natural deodorant isn’t only better for your body, it’s also helping to support a cleaner, greener planet.

Do natural deodorants stop body odor?

Body odor is a real problem and some people have it worse than others. Some people find natural deodorant isn’t strong enough to combat body odor, but it really comes down to finding the right one for your unique body and armpit chemistry.

Natural deodorants use ingredients like magnesium hydroxide, activated charcoal, baking soda, zinc, and probiotics to help fight the bacteria that cause body odor. And, of course, the natural essential oils provide fragrance to help, too.

It’s important to be aware that your body will likely undergo a “detox” period when you first switch to natural deodorant, which I’ll cover below.

Aside from deodorant, eating a clean diet, showering regularly, and wearing natural or organic clothing can help with bringing body odor under control.

Do natural deodorants stop sweat?

Most natural deodorants aren’t antiperspirants. Aluminum salts are the main antiperspirant chemical in conventional deodorant and you want to try to avoid that stuff. Natural deodorants don’t block your sweat glands so your body will continue to sweat, especially during exercise.

However, natural deodorants do contain ingredients like tapioca starch, corn starch, arrowroot powder, or charcoal, which help to absorb moisture and keep your underarms dry and less hospitable to odor-causing bacteria.

Sweat is good. You should want to sweat, it’s how your body regulates its temperature and releases toxins.

Do natural deodorants cause irritation?

It’s true that natural deodorants can cause skin irritation, especially if you have sensitive skin. However, this is also the case for conventional deodorants.

The main ingredients that tend to cause irritation are baking soda and some essential oils. If you’re known to have sensitive skin, I recommend trying to buy a sample first and seeing how you react.

It may take some time and experimentation to find the right formula for your body.

What about white stains on clothes?

You might have read that some natural deodorants can create white stains on your shirts. The main culprits here are oils (coconut oil, shea butter), baking soda (white chalky stains), and some essential oils (citrus, tea tree etc).

The main way to avoid this is to:

  1. Use small amounts of deodorant and reapply during the day if needed
  2. Allow time for the deodorant to dry or absorb into your skin before putting on your shirt
  3. Choose products that don’t use these ingredients

The natural deodorant detox phase

A lot of men try natural deodorant for a week and then quit because they start smelling worse. I’m sorry to say, but that’s often part of the process—a rite of passage if you like.

When you stop using antiperspirants, your body suddenly realizes it can sweat again, and it takes a little time for things to rebalance. During this phase, which can last a couple of weeks, your sweat glands are essentially clearing out the buildup of aluminum and other chemicals. You might notice a bit more odor than usual—it’s not you, it’s the process. This is totally normal and temporary. Once your body adjusts, you’ll be back to smelling like your best self (with a little help from your new natural deodorant, of course).

To help with the detox, drink plenty of water, exfoliate gently, and be kind to yourself—it’s all part of the journey to fresher, cleaner pits.

The 7 best natural deodorants for men in 2025

A lot of brands claim to be “natural”, but very few natural deodorants met our standards. These are the few that did and we’re confident they’re all solid recommendations.

CORPUS® Natural Deodorant

What we like ✅

  • Natural ingredients
  • Aluminum-free
  • No parabens or phthalates
  • No artificial fragrance
  • Natural odor-fighting formula
  • Complex scents
  • Recyclable packaging

CORPUS® Naturals deodorant has redefined what a natural deodorant can be. It was founded by J.P Mastey, who was the owner of personal care brand Baxter of California before it was acquired by L’Oreal. He was driven to create natural products that don’t cut corners on quality and performance. The website says: CORPUS is made for people who don’t want to sacrifice quality for the sake of ‘going natural.’

CORPUS takes scent development seriously. They approach natural deodorant in the same way a perfumer approaches a new cologne. All scents are created from natural ingredients with a base, middle, and top note. The result is sophisticated, natural scents that took years to develop. All of their deodorants are suitable for men and women, however, Nº Green, Santalum, and Cedar Flora are my top picks for masculine scents.

The deodorants use no aluminum, parabens, phthalates, synthetic fragrances, or baking soda, however, they do contain alcohol, which can cause irritation for some people. CORPUS® uses live enzymes derived from vegetable fermentation to combat odor-causing bacteria. I’m not really sure what that means, but it sounds fancy. It’s a clear, water-based formula that glides on the skin and doesn’t leave white marks like some natural deodorants.

Customers say CORPUS deodorants are effective at neutralizing odor throughout the day, even in warmer climates or during exercise. But it’s not an antiperspirant—so you will sweat, but you won’t stink.

I’m really impressed by CORPUS® Naturals men’s deodorant. The brand is trying to elevate and legitimize natural products by moving beyond the “homemade, farmer’s market” vibe and create something a bit more luxurious. Be aware, CORPUS ain’t cheap. But if you’re looking for a natural deodorant that smells incredible and fights odor, it’s worth a try.

CORPUS® Naturals reviews

“I’ve been using Corpus deodorant for the last 4 years and absolutely love it. I have tried other natural deodorants, but Corpus is the best in quality, scent (I am OBSESSED with No. Green and it’s been my signature!) and actually keeping odor at bay. My husband who has gotten rashes from other natural deodorants did not get any irritation from Corpus.” CORPUS Naturals Nº Green

“I’ve tried many natural deodorant and this one is my favorite. I’ve bought number green and it smells so good! Doesn’t leave any marks because he’s clear. I also use it when I’m doing CrossFit training and I don’t smell bad at the end of my training so for me it’s a big win! Even if the product is a bit pricey, it worth every dollar.” CORPUS Naturals Nº Green

Primally Pure Deodorant Reviews

“I have tried a dozen “natural” deodorants. This is the only one that ACTUALLY works. I rarely have to reapply and the scent is perfect…not too strong. I’m a man, and my wife also uses this scent. I really can’t sale enough good about this deodorant. I am locked in on this brand!!” Primally Pure, Charcoal Deodorant

“My husband has tried every single brand of natural deodorant, but has always complained of having to reapply throughout the day because they wear off! NOT ANYMORE! Finally we found one that makes him smell fresh/clean all day long! He tends to sweat more than the average man so this has been a lifesaver for us!”  Primally Pure, Bergamot + Eucalyptus Deodorant

What we like ✅

  • Organic ingredients
  • Fair Trade ingredients
  • Aluminum-free
  • No parabens or phthalates
  • Suitable for sensitive skin
  • Supports regenerative agriculture
  • Extensive range
  • Excellent reviews

I’m a sucker for a good origin story. Primally Pure was founded in 2015 by Bethany McDaniel who turned to crafting her own natural cosmetics after experiencing skin issues with conventional products. Using organic ingredients from her family’s regenerative farm in Southern California, she started making handcrafted personal care products, which eventually evolved into Primally Pure the brand.

Primally Pure makes a wide range of products, but I initially discovered the brand when I was searching for a good non-toxic deodorant. I was mainly looking for a deodorant made from natural and organic ingredients and Primally Pure came highly recommended.

While the brand is quite “feminine”, they have several deodorants that are suitable for men, such as Bergamot + Eucalyptus, Lemongrass, Unscented, and Charcoal Deodorant. The deodorants are made from natural, mostly organic ingredients, such as coconut oil, grass-fed tallow, beeswax, kaolin clay, arrowroot powder, baking soda, and essential oils. I find Primally Pure is smooth to apply and less “grainy” than some natural deodorants. It tends to last all day, but may require a second application when I’m more active.

In my research, I found that some people developed redness or experienced a burning sensation from Primally Pure deodorants, potentially a reaction to a specific essential oil, baking soda, or another ingredient. As with any deodorant or product that’s applied to the skin, everyone will have a slightly different reaction. Overall, Primally Pure has excellent reviews (more than 6300 on the website).

One other cool thing about Primally Pure is they have a recycling program where you can send back your empties in exchange for $10 off your next order. While it’s a little pricey (around $22 for a deodorant stick), Primally Pure really is one of the top choices if you’re looking for a good men’s natural deodorant.

Schmidt's Natural Deodorant

What we like ✅

  • Natural ingredients
  • Ecocert COSMOS certified
  • Aluminum-free
  • No parabens
  • No artificial fragrance
  • Extensive range

Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant is one of the most recommended natural deodorants for men—and for good reason. Started in 2010 by Jamie Schmidt in her kitchen in Portland, Oregon, the brand has grown into a big name brand, stocked in major chain stores like Target and Walmart.

Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant has a really solid reputation for keeping the body odor and sweat at bay. The brand claims 48 hour odor protection, but in my experience, that’s a stretch. Schmidt’s has a wide range of delicious scents, but the most suitable ones for men are: Bergamot and Lime, Sandalwood and Citrus, Fresh Rain and Birch, and Charcoal and Magnesium.

Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant uses natural ingredients, such as arrowroot powder, coconut oil, shea butter, and essential oils with no parabens or aluminum salts. Their deodorant sticks do, however, contain small amounts of alcohol and baking soda, which may cause skin irritation for some people. If you have sensitive skin, Schmidt’s has a Sensitive Deodorant Stick, which comes highly recommended.

Schmidt’s is one of the only deodorants we’ve come across that has a certification to back up its “natural” claims. Schmidt’s is Ecocert COSMOS certified, which not only covers the natural ingredients, but also recyclable packaging and sustainable manufacturing.

Schmidt’s was acquired by multinational Unilever in 2017, so it’s not the small, independent home business it once was. And while some changes have been made to the ingredients, Schmidt’s remains one of the most popular natural deodorants for men on the market.

Dr Squatch Men's Deodorant

What we like ✅

  • BCorp certified
  • Natural ingredients
  • Aluminum-free
  • No parabens or phthalates
  • No artificial fragrance
  • Masculine scents
  • Extensive range

Of all of the natural deodorant brands to burst on the scene in recent years, Dr. Squatch has probably made the biggest splash. And what’s more, Dr. Squatch is one of the few non-toxic deodorants specifically for men. With a reputation for fun, lighthearted marketing (often targeting men’s girlfriends), Dr. Squatch has fast become a “man favorite” (see what I did there?).

Dr. Squatch deodorant is made from 98-100% natural ingredients and they have a “sh*t list” of chemicals they’ll never use in their products, including aluminum, parabens, phthalates and more. The main ingredients in their deodorants are coconut oil, tapioca starch, beeswax and shea butter. They also use charcoal powder, known as a natural deodorizer, and postbiotics to promote “good” bacteria under your armpits.

The main thing that makes Dr. Squatch so popular, aside from their clever marketing, is that they smell really good. Like, really good! With scents such as Pine Tar, Wood Barrel Bourbon, Maverick Musk, and Alpine Sage, Dr. Squatch scents are as masculine as it gets. Dr. Squatch also has deodorant for your nether regions, called Ball Barrier Dry Lotion, which is popular with active men or those who want to stay fresh for their significant others.

Customer reviews of Dr. Squatch men’s non-toxic deodorant are overwhelmingly positive, however we did find some people who complained of white marks being left on their shirts (mainly the Pine Tar scent) or experienced skin irritation, which is always a possibility with any deodorant.

All in all, Dr. Squatch is one of the best natural deodorants for men. The fact that they’re BCorp certified is also a bonus as it shows they’re walking the talk when it comes to ethical and sustainable business practices.

Dr. Squatch natural deodorant reviews

“Absolutely in love with this scent. The wife is too. Goes on nicely and feels great thereafter. Seems to keep me as dry as the old aluminum-based antiperspirant I used.”Wood Barrel Bourbon deodorant

“I’ve struggled with rashes from all antiperspirants and had to go deodorant only. Every brand of natural deodorant smelled great on application but went to BO after 3 hours. Squatch is the best smelling and genuinely last 7+ hours. I apply in the AM and reapply after dinner just to enjoy the smell.” Alpine Sage deodorant

Each & Every Natural Deodorant

What we like ✅

  • Natural ingredients
  • Aluminum-free
  • No parabens or phthalates
  • No artificial fragrance
  • EWG-verified for safety
  • Man-friendly scents
  • Plant-based packaging
  • Recycling program

If you’re on the hunt for a deodorant that ticks all the “natural” boxes without sacrificing performance, Each & Every might just be the one. Each & Every is one of the more popular natural deodorants out there and it’s suitable for both men and women.

This clean deodorant is made from natural ingredients, such as coconut oil (for smooth application), tapioca starch (for absorbing sweat), Dead Sea salt (for odor control), and essential oils (for fragrance). They don’t use baking soda, which is an ingredient in some non-toxic deodorants that can cause irritation. Each & Every products are EWG-verified, which means they meet strict standards for the ingredients and manufacturing processes they use.

Customers love the scent range. While some of them are more feminine, they have a several masculine scents that are popular with men, such as Sandalwood & Black Pepper, Cannabis & Green Tea, Cardamom & Ginger, and Cedar & Vanilla. They also have a fragrance free option for sensitive skin.

As for its effectiveness… I’ve come across several people who say this is the only non-toxic deodorant that works for them. I’m not sure why, but I do know Each & Every puts a lot of effort into researching, sourcing, and creating “each and every” product from scratch. I’ve seen a few people say the coconut oil base stains their clothing, but this seems to be an issue with natural (and conventional) deodorant across the board.

Another cool thing about Each & Every is they use sustainable sugarcane-based packaging and they have a recycling program that allows you to send back empties (once you’ve collected five of them) in exchange for a discount on your next order.

A heads-up: Each & Every is a little pricier than your typical drugstore stick (around $20 a pop), but considering how clean and effective it is, it feels worth it. Customers have said they’re surprised at how long it lasts—6 months or more using it twice a day.

Each & Every deodorant reviews

“I am SO excited to have found a deodorant without aluminum that WORKS!!! I’ve tried every brand I could find and this was the only one that I can use and I don’t smell. It took a week for my body chemistry to work with it. I love this scent and my husband wears it too because it’s mild and not too feminine or masculine, it’s just fresh. If he runs out he grabs a new one from my cabinet.”Each & Every Cedar & Vanilla Deodorant

“I’m a very masculine man in need of a masculine scent in the armpits with an organic touch. This deodorant is exactly what I needed. Not too strong and clean to its natural intentions. Bravo.” Each & Every Sandalwood & Black Pepper Deodorant

Little Seed Farm Natural Deodorant Cream

What we like ✅

  • Natural and organic ingredients
  • Aluminum-free
  • No parabens or phthalates
  • Baking soda-free
  • No artificial fragrance
  • Recyclable packaging
  • Return and reuse program

Little Seed Farm is the kind of deodorant that makes you feel good before you even open the jar. It’s handmade on a family-run goat farm in Tennessee where they’re all about organic, non-toxic living. It doesn’t get much more natural than Little Seed Farm. But… is the deodorant any good? The answer to that question is a resounding “Yes!”

Little Seed Farm Natural Deodorant Cream is made from all-natural and organic ingredients. Organic jojoba oil, coconut oil (Capric Triglyceride), beeswax, and tapioca powder form the base of the deodorant, magnesium hydroxide helps with odor control, and natural essential oils provide the fragrance. Little Seed Farm deodorant is gender neutral, but there are a few scents that are more suited to men, such as Activated Charcoal (with rosemary and spearmint), Cedar Vanilla, and Rosemary Patchouli.

Little Seed Farm deodorant is different to most other natural deodorants as it’s a cream rather than a stick. Its texture is similar to moisturizer that can be applied with your fingers or a small bamboo applicator. A lot of customers prefer this method of application as it’s much easier and smoother than using a hard stick deodorant. The formula is said to last 24 hours—and customers back this claim up.

Little Seed Farm goes above and beyond when it comes to sustainability. They use reusable and recyclable glass jars, recyclable metal lids, eco-friendly packaging, and 100% solar energy to make their products.

As for effectiveness, Little Seed Farm is one of those brands that customers rave about. People who suffer with bad body odor issues say Little Seed Farm deodorant is a lifesaver and one of the only natural products that works for them. If you find other natural deodorant sticks aren’t working for you, it could be a good idea to give Little Seed Farm’s natural deodorant cream a try.

Little Seed Farm deodorant reviews

“I use Little Seed Farm and they are really awesome! Not to get into too much detail but I have always struggled with bad B.O. and I used to feel a lot of shame and embarrassment around it. Little Seed Farms deodorant has completely changed that for me. I live in South Texas where it is humid and it is HOT and I can confidently say that it has been the only natural deodorant that works for me. I have gone through so many brands before finally finding this one and it is truly awesome.” Little Seed Farm Blue Lotus deodorant

“I’ve been using Little Seed Farm for maybe 5 years now (wow time flies!) and it’s easily the best deodorant I’ve used. Like another person said, it lasts 24+ hours on me. My favorite scent is the Orange Vetiver (which is a summer seasonal and sadly just went away) but when that’s not available, I use the Rosemary Patchouli. I will say I was having a bit of skin irritation right after applying it a few months ago, BUT I recently switched back after using up some other deodorant and have no irritation now that my skin issue is resolved. My sister has very sensitive skin and can’t use most other deodorants (especially ones with baking soda), and she’s been using LSF for longer than I have with no problems.” Little Seed Farm Rosemary Patchouli deodorant

Native Natural Deodorant

What we like ✅

  • Naturally-derived ingredients
  • Aluminum-free
  • No parabens or phthalates
  • Extensive range

Native Natural Deodorant is probably the biggest, most well-known natural deodorant for men out there. It was a venture-backed brand that went on to sell to US multinational Procter & Gamble for $100 million within two years. Native timed the natural products wave perfectly and reaped the benefits. To be honest, I’m a little hesitant to include Native on this list. However, their excellent reputation and extensive product range twisted my arm.

Native deodorant is made from “naturally-derived” ingredients. They include most of the good stuff other natural brands use—coconut oil, shea butter, tapioca starch, and magnesium hydroxide. However, they also use baking soda and some synthetic fragrances (they do have a Sensitive deodorant without baking soda). The products are still free from toxins like aluminum, parabens, and phthalates… but they’re not as natural as they could be.

Native has a really solid reputation, which is a big reason why they make the list. Not only does it have 4.4 stars from 89,000 ratings on Amazon, people tend to rave about Native across the board. It promises 72 hour odor protection and there are plenty of customers who verify it lasts “all day”, however this claim has been challenged in a class action lawsuit, which says there’s no clinical study to back it up. I found some people who complained about Native making them more sweaty, which goes to show it’s not for everyone (no product is!).

Native has a HUGE scent range—26 different scents at last count (including some holiday season specials), and pretty much all of them are suitable for men. The main range of stick deodorant comes in plastic packaging, but they also offer a plastic-free cardboard tube for people who want a more eco-friendly option. Native also has whole body deodorant cream and a spray deodorant, though I wouldn’t recommend that.

While I think Native could do better in terms of all-natural ingredients and sustainable business practices, there’s no denying it’s a solid natural deodorant for men. It’s said to be less greasy and smoother to apply than some other brands and it really seems to work for thousands upon thousands of happy customers.

Native Natural Deodorant reviews

“In terms of performance, Native works like a charm. I was worried about making the switch from my traditional antiperspirant, but I was relieved to find that Native effectively controls odor without leaving any residue or stains on my clothes. It glides on smoothly and absorbs quickly, making it perfect for those hurried mornings. Plus, it’s aluminum-free, which makes me feel good about what I’m putting on my skin.” Native Deodorant Coconut & Vanilla

“I’ve been struggling to find something that works naturally under my arms and everything I’ve ever tried always ends up causing a rash or irritation. Since I started using this two weeks ago, I was hesitant, but willing to try anything at this point. I’m a male, 28 years old, and have sensitive skin. Honestly the scent lasts all day and I’m stoked on that part because any other deodorant or antiperspirant still allowed me to stink at the end of a work day. 10/10 recommend to anyone and everyone!” Native Deodorant Sea Salt & Cedar
